Need Volunteers: OACC Lunar New Year and “Taylor Anderson Story” screening

Can you volunteer for one or both of these upcoming events? Two great ways to give back to Japan! Contact Mark at communications@jetaanc.org <communications(at)jetaanc.org> if you would like to learn more.

1. Staff JET alumni table at Oakland Asian Cultural Center’s Lunar New Year Festival Every year, JETAANC hosts a popular table at the festival, one of the biggest community events of the year, celebrating New Year’s traditions from across Asia. It’s wide open as to what you could do at the table. You could lead an activity such as making origami, paper dolls, or a New Year’s kite, run a janken-pon contest, etc. Or you could just share some of your pictures and artifacts from Japan. Or buy a bunch of Japanese New Year’s related stuff from your local Daiso and show it off! It’s a great chance to build our visibility in the community and give back to Japan. JETAANC will cover the cost of any materials and transportation/parking.

Date: Saturday, Feb. 16 Time: 11am – 4:30pm (whole festival or a shift) Festival website: http://bit.ly/RUFcIl

2. Coordinate a screening of Taylor Anderson documentary for 3/11 Anniversary JET alumni chapters around the world are organizing screenings of a new documentary about Taylor Anderson, one of two JETs who lost their lives in the 3/11 earthquake and tsunami in Tohoku. We are looking for someone who might be interested in organizing a screening in the Bay Area–or beyond! The screening may also be a chance to raise more money for Tohoku, which continues to need support. You would have full material and advisory support from the Executive Committee. A good chance to network with the Japanese Consulate and other partner organizations.

Let us also know if you have other ideas for events this year. Contact Mark at communications@jetaanc.org <communications(at)jetaanc(dot)org>!
