Judith Kajiwara Butoh performances – 5/31, 6/1, 6/2

A rare chance to see Judith Kajiwara perform Butoh dance on May 31, June 1, and June 2.

As many of you know who have seen her perform, Kajiwara is one of the most gifted Butoh dancers performing today. Her performances have a raw and elemental power, mixed with moments of hope and humor.

JETAANC was fortunate to be able to collaborate with her in the development of her Butoh version of “Kurozuka” (“The Black Mound,” a.k.a. “Adachigahara”) as part of our Black Mound Project. Kajiwara will perform her fourth interpretation of the piece, which she continues to develop. This version incorporates some interesting surprises that I am sure you will enjoy. She will also be performing her very moving piece, “The Dress.” Don’t miss it.

Kajiwara will also be doing a special Butoh solo performance, The Silence of Ma, at the Subterranean Arthouse in Berkeley on Sunday, June 2. Providing music will be her SpiritARTS! partners: world-class musician, Kai Eckhardt, on bass guitar, percussion and keyboards; and Ouida Joi Cooper-Rodriguez, spoken word and vocals.
