Miyazaki 2009 - 2012

Xander Peterson is a JET Program alumnus, JETAA International Board Member, and a Teaching Engineer in the tech industry. Following his three years as an elementary & junior high school ALT in Miyazaki prefecture (2009 - 2012), he served for 3 years as the JET Program Coordinator at the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco. Afterwards he successfully transitioned into a career in tech, first working for 3 years as a software engineer at a fintech startup. He worked for 3 years as a Teaching Engineer at Lyft, where he created engaging learning experiences that empower software engineers and technologists and solves educational challenges with an engineering mindset. He is now at Okta doing designing technical curriculum. Xander has also been an active JETAA member, serving three years as the JETAA USA Country Representative and co-founding the JETAA International 2.0, serving as its first Chair, and is a former JETAA International Board Member. 


Xander is passionate about combining his expertise with JETAA and tech by sharing insights into the tech industry and helping alumni transition into the tech sector.


Xander earned his degrees at UCLA in Cognitive Science (BS) and Japanese (BA).
