Miyazaki 2009 - 2012
Xander Peterson is a JET Program alumnus, JETAA International Board Member, and Senior Teaching Engineer at Coinbase. He began his career in Japan as an elementary and junior high school ALT in Miyazaki Prefecture (2009–2012), then served three years as the JET Program Coordinator at the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco.
After returning to the U.S., Xander successfully transitioned into technology—first as a software engineer, and later into tech education. He has designed and led learning programs as a Teaching Engineer at Lyft and now as a Senior Teaching Engineer at Coinbase, where he builds engaging learning experiences that empower software engineers and applies an engineering mindset to educational challenges.
Within the JET alumni community, Xander has remained an active leader. He served three years as JETAA USA Country Representative and co-founded JETAA International 2.0, serving as its first Chair and continuing as a Board Member.
Passionate about bridging his JET experience with his tech career, Xander shares insights into the industry and supports fellow alumni in transitioning into technology. He holds a B.S. in Cognitive Science and a B.A. in Japanese from UCLA.
