The Japan Exchange & Teaching Program Alumni Association of Northern California Announces Its 2016 Scholarship Recipients
San Francisco, CA – The Japan Exchange & Teaching Program Alumni Association of Northern California (JETAANC) recently announced the recipients of its 2016 scholarship. Johanna Wee, JETAANC Scholarship Coordinator, proudly named Jeffrey Seidl, Livermore High School, Livermore, and Charlotte Osborn, C.K.McClatchy High School, Sacramento, as recipients.
The JETAANC scholarship selection committee was especially impressed with the recipients’ combined academic excellence, sustained interest in Japan, and extracurricular activities. Jeffrey is a talented bassoonist who performs at his high school and with the Livermore-Amador Symphony Youth Orchestra. Furthermore, Jeffrey is deeply involved with programs such as the Livermore Yotsukaido Sister City Organization and the martial art of jujitsu. In addition to having lived in Japan and sustained intensive Japanese language study, Charlotte is involved with rowing and water polo and volunteers for Sacramento Reading Partners.
Jeffrey will be attending the University of California, Davis, from the fall. After graduation, Jeffery hopes to pursue a career in international relations. This was largely inspired by his connection to Japan and the realization that we are living in an increasingly interdependent world.
Charlotte will be attending the University of California, Santa Cruz, from the fall. After graduation, Charlotte hopes to teach English in Japan on the JET Program. She considers Japan to be her second home and hopes to follow in the footsteps of her father, who was a JET participant.
Annually, the JETAANC honors one or two high school seniors who have demonstrated interest in Japan and academic excellence, made outstanding contributions to their communities, and been accepted into an accredited college or university. 2016 marked a record number of applicants.
