Sadako’s Secrets: Alum Explains “Ringu” at the Asian Art Museum

Ever wonder about the real back story of the legendary Japanese horror film, Ringu? In a recent article in Pacific Bridge, JET alum Mark Frey (Kumamoto 2002-06) shares some of his more interesting and unsettling discoveries about the film. He made them while doing research for two lectures on Ringu at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco last year. To his great surprise, Mark found out that the movies, though modern in their presentation, were drawing from centuries of Japanese cultural history, including some of the country’s oldest and most gruesome ghost tales.
